The potency of quietude.
Sharing what's coming up for me in real time
There’s a sort of peaceful quietude that comes with hotels.
I’m in North Carolina currently—getting ready to onboard a new job for a few days before I get back home and work remotely. Things have changed so fast over these last few weeks. In the best way possible. I’m eternally grateful for the way God is moving in my life, and how he’s directing every step forward.
I woke up about 40 minutes ago, went downstairs, excited to have complimentary breakfast, and sip on my hot coffee slowly. I’ve realized how important a slow morning is for me. It’s not just a want or a preference. It’s a need. It’s essential. For my nervous system, my mental, starting my day off right and with minimal chaos or urgency, and ultimately—my overall well-being.
As I took my first bite, I was reminded of how terrible some of these hotel breakfast foods can be. Instant disappointment. But still, I was attuning to something clearer, deeper, and a sensation of overwhelming gratitude coming over me.
I recognize this isn’t the case for everyone, but traveling alone, away from all the chaos, urgency, and pressures of everyday life, can actually feel so freeing. It’s liberating. It reminds you of what peace feels like. It reminds you of what solitude feels like. It reminds you that things you stress about back home very rarely ever need attention in that instant moment. It reminds you to slow down, to ease into your day, to be cognizant of the choices you make.
I’m excited about today. And I feel a sense of joy for not only embarking on this new chapter, but for how the other things in my life are working together to fall into place.
I woke up today itching to write. Before itching to have my coffee or breakfast or get ready for this new opportunity. I’m grateful for putting these words together now. My day has started with quietude—something I’'ll never take for granted. And I pray that peace translates to other parts of my life. Despite location, time, or circumstance.
I also hope you find pockets of the day to choose quietness, serenity, and moments that help you pour into you with energy that prompts your next step.
I’ve only ever shared this with people close to me. But if you know me, you know how much I love coffee. My grandpa gave me my first cup of coffee when I was just three years old. It’s a big part of my culture. It’s how people invite, welcome, and hold space for others. It tastes so good. You can have it in a variety of different ways. Visiting new coffee shops is a magical experience in and of itself.
I’m deeply curious and love learning and can nerd out on things I love. I’ve watched full-fledged hour long podcast episodes on coffee alone. Just to give you an idea of how much I love it.
With that being said, if you love spending time with my words, and would like to be part of fulfilling my dream to do this full-time and make a living off of what I love, feel free to buy me a coffee! Saying your support means the world would be an understatement. It truly, in every sense, would mean everything!
Thanks again for spending time with my words.
Until next time,
Kevin
